Babylon is Fallen (Revelation 18:1-24)

Revelation Exposition

On several occasions in the Book of Revelation, “Babylon’s” fall has been prophesied. In 17:1-18 we saw this is some detail: Babylon (i.e. Jerusalem) would be destroyed by the multinational Roman forces. In effect, Jerusalem has fallen in Revelation 17. But this is not the end of the prophecy. In Revelation 18, we see the effects of this fall. In this study, I want to take a bird’s eye view of this chapter and see the effects of Jerusalem’s fall in the first century. As we shall see, the fall of Jerusalem was the greatest fall of any city in world history. It was not simply a military, economical or political fall, but a covenantal fall. A fall of this magnitude never has been repeated, nor will it ever be repeated. Let us, then, consider the fall of Jerusalem.
