Astonished Beyond Measure (Mark 7:31–37)
In this text Mark describes for us one of our Lord’s miraculous healings beside the Seashores of Galilee. A group of friends bring to our Lord a man who had been deaf and mute. Their desperate plea for help results in instantaneous miraculous delivery of the deaf mute. Suddenly the man can hear and speaks normally. The evidently obvious in the text is though not the heart of the matter. What really matters here is the fact that our Lord was demonstrating that He had come to heal the spiritually deaf and mute. Just as the deaf and mute man could do nothing about his condition, nor any physicians, so all of mankind is desperately without hope and without cure outside of Christ. Christ alone can draw sinners unto God the Father. Christ alone can open spiritually deaf ears.
