CloseThe psalms were all written out of particular historical contexts. That is one reason that they speak so powerfully and practically to us—because they are real. Psalm 60 gives us one of the longest historical introductions to all of the psalms. As David was experiencing great military victory in one region, Joab, his military commander, was experiencing defeat in another. David was somewhat disillusioned, and so he penned this psalm, writing of some of the lessons that he had learned in his time of disillusionment.
