First Peter was written to believers under persecution, giving them hope to persevere in the light of His coming. We need this encouragement ourselves. We can all too easily be tempted to grow inactive for the gospel while we await the Lord’s return. But Peter would exhort us to live lives of gospel usefulness while we await His return.
