Being Useful for the Kingdom, While You Wait (1 Peter 4:7–11)
First Peter was written to believers under persecution, giving them hope to persevere in the light of His coming. We need this encouragement ourselves. We can all too easily be tempted to grow inactive for the gospel while we await the Lord’s return. But Peter would exhort us to live lives of gospel usefulness while we await His return.

In some of Jesus’ final words on the cross—“It is finished”—we learn that Jesus’ earthly mission was finished, his work of redemption was finished, and the power of death was finished. As meditate on this text, let us learn to rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ in the gospel.
