Discipleship and Riches (Mark 10:17–31)
The story of the rich, young ruler is instructive. The rich man was morally upstanding, and yet he was following his riches to destruction. His idolatry of affluence risked cutting him off from eternal life. Our idolatry of affluence, if we do not repent, risks doing the same. Do you idolise affluence? How can you overcome that idolatry? Can you inoculate yourself against it? What will happen if you don’t? These questions rise from the text before us.
