Unbelieving Believers (Mark 9:14–29)

The Christian life is a life of contrasts: glory above but grief and groaning below. Coupled to this is the contrast between faith and unbelief. Like the disciples in this story, we find ourselves, at times, faithless—or, like the father, living with the tension of believe yet unbelief. We are often unbelieving believers. This text serves to equip us to be believing believers—characterised by, among other things, a spirit of dependence upon Christ, demonstrated by a life of prayer.
