There was a lot to be thankful for in the church at Colosse, but the church had at the same time become blind to some of the dangers that they faced. Paul wanted the church to be aware of those dangers, and so he wrote to warn them of those dangers. In 1:24–29, Paul’s tone turns somewhat biographical as he seeks to show them what the work of a faithful minister looks like. Faithful ministry is characterised by suffering, stewardship, and strength.
