CloseReaders who find themselves either perplexed or frightened by the strange visions of Daniel 7 are in good company: Daniel was both! Nevertheless, careful and level-headed study can both clear some of the confusion and lift some of the fear that readers might feel when approaching the text—if we will but lift our eyes from the beastly waters to the heavenly thrones.
