The book of 1 John is a lesser-known part of the New Testament for most. There is, however, a feast of biblical truth for us in this brief apostolic sermon. John is intent on helping his hearers to understand exactly who God is and who they are in relation to the Lord they serve and the world in which they live. He writes as an eyewitness for their edification, certainty, and joy. As we delve into the first four verses of the book this week, we will have opportunity to marvel again at Christ and the gospel, which leads to Christian fellowship both with God and one another.
