Celebrating Marriage (Part 2) (Proverbs 5:15–23)

Proverbs Exposition

Proverbs 5 serves as a warning from a father to his son about sexual immorality. Sexual seduction is at the core of his admonition, but the matter of seduction, generally speaking, is in view here as well. There is much here for every Christian, whether married or unmarried. Nevertheless, clearly marriage is in view (vv. 15ff) and we would be remiss to ignore this. It could be said that, in the first fourteen verses, condemnation of sexual infidelity is the theme, whereas, in the remainder of the chapter, celebration of sexual fidelity is the theme. We can go further: It serves as a celebration of the marriage relationship between a natural man and a natural woman.

Scripture References: Proverbs 5:15-23
