Revelation: What It’s All About (Revelation 1:4b-8)
We have spent considerable time in the opening verses of Revelation. We have done so for good reason: as one author put it, the key to Revelation is in the front door. That is, the key to understanding Revelation lies in understanding the opening verses. Someone from our church told me that they had never been through a study of Revelation with so much time spent in the opening verses. He added that that is probably the reason that our church had historically missed the proper interpretation of the time-frame references given by John. In this study, we conclude our consideration of John’s prologue (Revelation 1:1-3) and introduction (Revelation 1:4-8). The key to these opening verses is found in Revelation 1:7 – ‘Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, amen.’ If we understand this verse, we will be well on our way to understanding Revelation in its entirety.
