This is a very rich passage, in which the Lord of the Sabbath instructs his disciples about the heart of the Sabbath and the heart on the Sabbath. In other words, Jesus teaches his observant disciples how to appreciate the purpose of the Lord’s Day and how to make the most of it. But more than this, fundamentally, Jesus teaches them about their hearts.
