For the past year and a half, many of the men of BBC have met on the second Wednesday evening of each month to discuss the book The Disciplines of a Godly Man by R. Kent Hughes. I believe that this was a profitable read, as were the varied discussions that we shared as a group. I trust that our families and the corporate life of the church will see the fruit of this reading fellowship for years to come. But what will we do now that this book has been completed? Well, I am glad that you asked!
Beginning Wednesday evening, 12 August, all the men are invited to what we will simply designate a Men’s Meeting, at which we will further pursue the issue of what a godly man looks like. Our primary texts will be 1 Timothy 3:1–13 and Titus 1:6–9. We will take an in-depth look into the godly character qualities which the Lord expects of every man who professes to be His follower. As we explore these characteristics, there will also be some articles to read that bear on the subject. I look forward to spending time with the men of BBC on this monthly excursion into this rich and extremely important subject. All men, and (boys who will be men!) are invited to attend. Please diarise our first meeting: Wednesday, 12 August at 7:00 PM. In the meantime I encourage you to begin to meditate upon these two passages and ask the Lord to guide you into godliness.
