Salvation Applied; Praise God for Predestination (Ephesians 1:11–14)

Ephesians Exposition

Having highlighted our privilege to perceive God’s eternal and ultimate purpose (vv. 8–10) Paul drives home in vv. 11–14 the blessing of being predestined to purposeful living; that is, living for the praise of God’s glory. Fundamentally this passage emphasises what the triune God has predestined us to and, ultimately, the role of the Holy Spirit in bringing this to pass in space-time history. We can learn at least four things about the Spirit’s predestination from these verses.
